Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School Centenary Building
Evans and Kelliher Construction Limited began work on the new extension at Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School Tralee in February 2014. Now the extension is fully completed and was officially opened on Monday May 9th of this year.
Mercy Mounthawk had a wonderful ceremony to mark this significant occasion, with special guests attending such as the former minister, Mr. Jimmy Deenihan. He praised the school's determination and drive to build the building at a time when money was extremely scarce. It was the fact the school community had already done so much to fund the project that helped most to gain approval from the DES.
The new extension has 7 classrooms, 4 resource rooms, an extended canteen space which will double as a performance space, and a new toilet block. This extenstion will provide improved facilities so that the school will be in a much better position to embrace the modern developments that are coming down the educational track.
A meal and entertainment followed the unveiling of the plaque at the entrance to the building. Mr. O'Rourke spoke and thanked all who made the day possible. He thanked the builders and the design team for an excellent space and for their hardwork.
